BOSTON, Sept. 8, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Greater Boston Association of REALTORS® (GBAR), a division of the Greater Boston Real Estate Board (GBREB), secured a Placemaking micro-grant from the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) to help make the Wilmington community a better place by contributing to a local dog park.
These grants are intended to help REALTOR® Associations partner with others to plan, organize, implement and invest in community improvement projects that aim to improve neighborhoods and transform unused public spaces into vibrant community places.
GBAR used the approximately $1,000 in funding it received to install a new park bench within the Wilmington Dog Park, and also to contribute to the ongoing improvement of the Aprile Field at the Wilmington Town Park. Wilmington resident and GBAR Director Jacki Santini initiated GBAR's involvement in this effort by connecting with Wilmington Town Manager Jeffery Hull and Town Recreation Director Karen Campbell to submit the original grant application.
"REALTORS® are intimately connected with their communities and often serve as ambassadors while promoting the best features of the cities and towns we serve," said GBAR President Melody Skye Roloff, an agent with EXIT Realty Beatrice Associates in Middleton. "We were delighted to have the opportunity this year to help with the improvements being made to Aprile Park to enhance its use for local residents."
Other projects GBAR has funded include converting an overgrown lot on Rt. 109 in Medway into a pocket park, featuring a park bench, walking path, trees and bushes. Additionally, GBAR has provided seating, tents and café tables for use in Peabody Square in the Ashmont section of Boston's Dorchester neighborhood.
Placemaking grants are awarded to local and state REALTORS® associations to help them and their members initiate placemaking projects in the community, like turning a parking lot into a farmer's market or a vacant lot into a playground. REALTORS® associations and their REALTORS® members are actively engaged in the community and know the neighborhoods and the properties that would benefit most from these improvement efforts.
