Great Park Summer Season Finale to Feature New Orleans Favorites BeauSoleil
IRVINE, Calif., Sept. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Fans of the HBO hit "Treme" and enthusiasts of authentic Cajun music know that listening to BeauSoleil is like walking down Bourbon Street in New Orleans. For the Orange County Great Park's "Flights and Sounds Summer Festival" season finale, Mardi Gras comes to Irvine when BeauSoleil with Michael Doucet and the Mardi Gras Indians take the stage this Saturday.
Before going Cajun, the Park's series of Friday night dance parties wraps up with a waltz across the Great Park dance floor under the stars with Waltz Me: A Night in Vienna. Whether your style is blue-denim Danube, or a ball gown and tails, the evening will be unforgettable. Begin the evening early with dance instructors to teach you a few steps at 7:30 p.m.
BeauSoleil avec Michael Doucet with Big Chief Monk Boudreaux and the Mardi Gras Indians will close "Flights and Sounds of Summer" as America's grandest Cajun band with accordion-and-fiddle driven music comes to Orange County on their 35th anniversary tour. The concert caps a season of record-setting attendance for the Park's annual music series.
"Flights and Sounds of Summer set an all time attendance record this year with more than 6,000 visitors showing up for one concert alone," said Larry Agran, Chair, Orange County Great Park Corporation. "More and more people are coming to the Great Park to enjoy a day or evening of family fun."
The Saturday night concert begins at 8:00 p.m. Before the show, come to the Great Park Comedy Corner at 7:00 p.m. and enjoy local comedians Tom Clark with special guests Kenny Kane and Tom Vrab. Admission to "Flights and Sounds Summer Festival" dance and concert series is free, and parking is just $10.
"Flights and Sounds Summer Festival" is presented by the Orange County Great Park Corporation in partnership with the Irvine Barclay Theatre. Concertgoers can watch the show from chairs provided in a temporary concert pavilion or bring their own chairs to listen to the music from the Great Park Lawn.
Before each performance, Hangar 244 is transformed into the Hangar Cafe, a lounge-like dining area serving up everything from snacks to full dinners, along with refreshments. The Orange County Great Park is located off the 405 or 5 Freeways at Sand Canyon and Marine Way in Irvine.
The Orange County Great Park with its 1,347-acre master plan is the focal point of the redevelopment of the 4,700-acre former Marine Corps Air Station, El Toro. The Great Park is currently built out to 27.5 acres and includes an iconic tethered helium balloon that rises 400 feet in the air, providing an aerial view of Park development. A $65.5 million development plan to expand the Park to 200 acres is currently underway. The plan will build out a core section of the Park for the most immediate and wide-ranging public benefit, including a sports park, agricultural area and an art and culture exhibition space.
