DENVER, March 23, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Arriving just in time for the spring travel season, "The Bucket Life: Yucatán," the newest episode in the original travel video series by Gray Line Worldwide, captures the rich culture and history defining this popular warm-weather destination for U.S. and European travelers. Offering close proximity to millennia-old Mayan ruins and the myriad of coastal Caribbean Sea adventures, Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula provides a perfect blend to both pique curiosity and calm the senses.
The Mexican states of Quintana Roo and Yucatán comprise most of the peninsula. Located on its northeastern coast, the beachfront destination of Cancun, host of the region's largest international airport and home of the local Gray Line operation, welcomes more than 5 million visitors* each year and offers something unique for each of them.
"From Mayan ruins to authentic artisan markets, and locally inspired cuisine to unending nightlife, experiences in and around Cancun deliver more than just the world's most beautiful beaches," said Fernando Barbachano, president & CEO, Gray Line Cancun. "The archeological history and traditional ways of life combine with world-class hotels, restaurants and a thriving tourism industry to make the Yucatán Peninsula a destination unlike any other."
Cancun's 14 miles of beachfront consist of crushed coral that remains cool to the touch, even in the hottest of seasons. These pristine white beaches contrast against clear turquoise waters and lush tropical wildlife. With Gray Line's Cancun area experiences, one can soak in the sun all day on the beach, sail to Isla Mujeres or tour the Great Maya Reef, a coral spread second in size only to Australia's. And under the water, adventurers can explore Cancun's sub-sea-level caves, as the city is home to three of the largest underwater cave systems in the world — all in the Riviera Maya area. Cancun also treats travelers to fresh-caught Caribbean seafood at locally owned and operated restaurants, whose expert chefs cook up centuries-old recipes and share family stories.
Considered a relatively young city, Cancun proper was largely made up of undeveloped coconut plantations until the '70s. Yet just a short drive away via Gray Line, the ruin cities of inland Chichen Itza and coastal Tulum bring greater perspective to the Yucatán Peninsula's earliest residents. Visitors to the area can still experience these great pre-Columbian cities and archeological sites as created by the Mayan people between 600 and 900 A.D.
Explorers can continue their pursuits even further off the eastern coast of Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula on the island of Cozumel. Accessible via its own airport and also from the mainland, Cozumel is considered part of the Yucatán Peninsula and located within the Caribbean Sea, opposite Playa del Carmen, and close to the Yucatán Channel. Cozumel is much more than a stop on a cruise and the island welcomes guests with open arms. The snorkeling and scuba offerings are endless, and visitors can also explore miles of uninhabited coastline on the island's wild, windward side.
For nearly 120 years, Gray Line has provided sightseeing experiences in the world's most desirable destinations. From Morocco to Milan and Ottawa to Oman, Gray Line's global team share a belief in connecting people through the reason they travel, including more than 600 destinations worldwide.
"Experiences like these in Cancun remind us why being a tourist is important, why travelers have historically been and are still the greatest cultural ambassadors," said Brad Weber, president & CEO, Gray Line Worldwide. "Tourism is one of the most important aspects of a successful city and society. And as much as tourists help celebrate the identity and offerings of these great cities, visitors also define and refine how these residents see the rest of the world. It's an absolutely critical exchange, and we take great pride and enjoyment in our supporting role."
Gray Line's original video series, "The Bucket Life," was shot by Denver-based Wit House Productions. Gray Line Worldwide will air a total of four episodes in its second season spanning through May 2017, including New Orleans, Yucatán Peninsula and two additional to-be-named destinations.
