SHREVEPORT, La., March 11, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- U-Haul® will host a grand-opening event on March 22 to unveil its newest indoor self-storage facility at U-Haul Moving & Storage of Downtown Riverfront at 222 Lake St. in Shreveport.

"Our neighbors in the downtown corridors have been asking for a state-of-the-art facility," said Warren Iles, U-Haul Company of Northern Louisiana president. "This area is rich with history and is growing every day. We are ready to serve this close-knit community with the moving and self-storage services they need."

U-Haul Moving & Storage of Downtown Riverfront opened in a limited capacity in 2017, offering truck and trailer sharing and moving supplies out of a temporary showroom.
Then the real work began. More than a year of renovations to the former Shreveport Times building has yielded more than 750 self-storage units at affordable price points in the 84,689-square-foot facility. Customers will enjoy U-Haul Remote 24/7® access, high-tech security features, covered load/unload areas, and a U-Haul Re-Use center for sharing boxes and gently used household items.
Towing equipment, professional hitch installation and a U-Box® portable storage container warehouse are also available. Propane will be sold on the 3.53-acre lot in the near future.
"This building has a rich history of serving Shreveport," Iles said. "Printing operations for The Times ceased in 2008, but the building has been a hub of activity for as long as I can remember. We're pleased the repurposing of such a well-known property will continue to benefit the city."
The acquisition of the Shreveport Times building was driven by U-Haul Corporate Sustainability initiatives: U-Haul supports infill developments to help local communities lower their carbon footprint. Our adaptive reuse of existing buildings reduces the amount of energy and resources required for new-building materials and helps cities reduce their unwanted inventory of unused buildings.
