Grand Opening of the Pacific Planetarium
BREMERTON, Wash., July 13, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- In conjunction with downtown Bremerton's First Friday Art Walk and with the cooperation of the Olympic Astronomical Society, the Pacific Planetarium will open its doors for the first time Friday, August 5th at 5pm. Night sky tours will run every half hour with the last show starting at 7:30pm.
The Pacific Planetarium is an astronomy education and educational research facility operated by Digitalis Education Solutions, Inc. Its mission is to increase astronomy and science literacy, research and evaluate related education methods, and showcase the latest in planetarium technologies.
The Pacific Planetarium is a creative use of the old art deco Bremerton Fire Station No. 1, which has been vacant for years. The 20-foot diameter projection dome is located in one of the former fire truck bays, with another bay open for the public to explore telescopes, planetarium technology, and other space-related exhibits.
Digitalis is headquartered elsewhere in the same building. Digitalis is a leading manufacturer of digital planetarium systems, with over 300 systems in use around the world. Digitalis staff and local volunteers will operate the planetarium.
The 28-seat Pacific Planetarium features a top-of-the-line Digitarium® digital projection system. Digitarium systems feature real-time sky simulations from anywhere on Earth or in the Solar System within the last or next million years.
Grand opening festivities are free and on a first come, first serve basis. Show seating is limited.
