"Like most people, cancer has touched someone close to each of us recently," said Haywood. "So, it's something that's important to us and we're proud to support The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's efforts to raise funds for cancer research."
All three band members, Hillary Scott, Charles Kelley, and Dave Haywood, have a strong connection to the LLS mission, each with a family member diagnosed with cancer in the past two years. In the new PSA, Scott talks openly about losing her grandfather to acute myeloid leukemia and his influence on the group. Having been impacted by cancer recently, they share their hope that cancer will be cured in their lifetime. The band urges viewers to donate to LLS to help find cures.
The PSA campaign, directed by filmmaker Jesse Dylan, is being distributed nationally on broadcast and in print.
"Lady Antebellum is an extremely talented and celebrated band and we are so grateful that they are giving their time and energy to support The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society," said John Walter, LLS President and CEO. "LLS is funding the most promising blood cancer research around the world and with Lady Antebellum's help we continue helping patients live longer, better lives."
Critical treatment innovations have originated through blood cancer research, including radiation, chemotherapy, stem cell transplantation, and new-targeted therapies, and significant progress continues to be made. Blood cancer research has been a gateway to finding therapies for many types of cancers. Half of the cancer drugs approved by the FDA in the last decade were first approved to treat patients with blood cancer, and many of these drugs are now being used and/or showing promise as treatments for patients with solid tumors and serious autoimmune diseases.
