Grady helps Mercedes Benz Stadium prepare for the Super Bowl
Grady Health System provides training and bleeding control kits
ATLANTA, Jan. 31, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- In the weeks leading up to the Super Bowl, Grady Health System's trauma specialists were busy making sure Mercedes Benz Stadium and its staff are ready to 'Stop the Bleed' in the event of a mass casualty event. More than 60 bleeding control kits have been mounted around the stadium, each containing simple to use tourniquets and other bleeding control items that can save lives in the immediate aftermath of an incident.
"As Atlanta's leading Level 1 trauma center, it's our job to be prepared for whatever happens in our community. By installing bleeding control kits in Mercedes Benz Stadium and training stadium staff on how to use them, we are able to extend life-saving techniques beyond our trauma center," said Grady's trauma medical director, Bryan Morse. "We, of course, hope the kits are never needed, but we want to make sure the stadium is as prepared as it can be for the Super Bowl or any future events it will host."
Grady trauma surgeons and trauma nurses conducted education sessions for staff at Mercedes Benz Stadium on January 8, 2019. Bleeding control kits were mounted around the stadium for quick access if needed.
Launched in 2015, 'Stop the Bleed' is a national campaign endorsed by the nation's top medical and trauma experts. The campaign aims to improve bystander intervention in cases of emergency bleeding. As Metro Atlanta's only American College of Surgeons verified Level 1 Trauma Center, Grady fully supports all efforts to administer life-saving care as quickly as possible.
