Governor's ImPAct Award Nominees from Northeast PA Recognized
SCRANTON, Pa., March 26, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) Secretary C. Alan Walker joined private sector partners today at the Commonwealth Medical College to recognize the Governor's ImPAct Award nominees in Northeast Pennsylvania.
In February, Governor Tom Corbett announced the inaugural Governor's ImPAct Awards, developed to recognize companies and entrepreneurs throughout Pennsylvania that are creating jobs and making positive contributions to the state's economy.
"Governor Corbett knows that government does not create jobs and is committed to creating a pro-growth environment that allows private sector employers to grow and prosper," Walker said. "The ImPAct Awards will give us the opportunity to celebrate and recognize the Pennsylvania companies and individuals that are investing in our workers and helping to move our economy forward."
The Governor's ImPAct Awards will recognize companies from throughout the state in five categories: Jobs First, Community Impact, Small Business Impact, Entrepreneurial Impact and Export Impact. Nominations for each award will be provided by the state's regional economic development partners – the Partnerships for Regional Economic Performance (PREP) network. Each of the 10 PREP regions will be eligible to submit up to five nominations per category.
The awards are being sponsored at no cost to the taxpayers by the state's private sector partner, Team Pennsylvania Foundation, and are being coordinated by DCED, Team PA and Journal Multimedia. Representatives from the Team PA and Journal Multimedia will evaluate the nominations and select the award recipients.
Walker's visit to Lackawanna County continued DCED on the Road, a series of events across Northeast Pennsylvania to discuss Governor Corbett's plans for economic growth, job creation and community development.
DCED representatives are traveling throughout Carbon, Lackawanna, Luzerne, Monroe, Pike, Schuylkill and Wayne counties, visiting successful projects, and meeting with community, economic development and tourism partners.
The DCED on the Road initiative is being funded and supported by the Team Pennsylvania Foundation, a private non-profit partnership with the commonwealth.
