Governor Wolf Proclaims October as Arts and Humanities Month in Pennsylvania
PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 1, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Governor Wolf has declared October 2015 as Arts and Humanities Month in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Established 20 years ago, Arts and Humanities Month has become the nation's largest collective annual celebration of the arts. Every October organizations nationwide encourage Americans to explore new facets of the arts and humanities in their lives and to begin a lifelong habit of active participation in the arts and humanities.
The official proclamation states that the arts and humanities "enhance the lives of every Pennsylvanian and foster greater understanding of our world."
"The arts and humanities spark dialogue and civic engagement, create opportunities for learning, and inspire creativity. Governor Wolf's Proclamation shines a light on the crucial role the arts and humanities play in educating Pennsylvania's citizens and strengthening its communities," said Laurie Zierer, Executive Director, Pennsylvania Humanities Council.
"In celebration of Arts and Humanities Month in Pennsylvania and the fiftieth anniversary of the signing of the nation's Arts and Humanities Bill, it seems only appropriate to borrow a quote from former President Lyndon B. Johnson, who said: 'The arts and humanities belong to the people, for it is, after all, the people who create them.'" stated Philip Horn, Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts.
