"I am proud to declare July 16, 2010 'Aviation Industry Awareness Day,'" said Governor Strickland. "As the 'Birthplace of Aviation,' it is fitting that we celebrate those who love to fly and recognize the critical importance of this form of transportation to our livelihood and our economy. Whether it's aerospace, aircraft manufacturing, educational institutions or our vast network of over 170 community airports statewide, aviation is a crucial part of our state and country's infrastructure, and we need to continue to support and encourage the growth of this vital industry."
AOPA President and CEO Craig L. Fuller added that Governor Strickland's proclamation is strong evidence of the state's continuing support for general aviation, noting that Ohio's leaders have consistently worked to follow through on the state's commitment to the industry.
According to the Ohio Business Development Coalition, the nonprofit organization that markets the state for capital investment, it's Ohio's complete spectrum of aerospace, aviation and advanced propulsion technologies – both military and commercial – that makes the state attractive to businesses and executives in the aerospace industry.
"Ohio is home to some of the best and brightest talent in the aerospace industry, and continues to provide the necessary tools to support business growth and to allow individuals to pursue both their professional and personal aspirations," said Ed Burghard, executive director of the Ohio Business Development Coalition. "Ohio truly is the State of Perfect Balance."
Governor Strickland's proclamation honors a week of aviation and aerospace industry events, running from July 12 through July 18. Celebrations will commence this weekend with the Dayton Air Show and the honoring of American visionaries of flight for their contributions to aviation on July 17 at the 49th annual Enshrinement Dinner & Ceremony at the National Aviation Hall of Fame (NAHF) in Dayton, Ohio.
