Governor Schwarzenegger to Unite Sub-National World Leaders in Climate Change Solutions at World Summit of Regions in Paris
PARIS, Oct. 3, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Former California Governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger will join regional and local leaders from across five continents, at the Palais d'Iena in Paris on October 10th and 11th, 2014 at the World Summit of Regions for Climate. This pivotal event brings together government, business, finance, academic, and NGO leaders from across the globe to discuss and formulate new solutions to the critical issue of climate change. The Summit will be co-hosted by The Economic, Social and Environmental Council of France and R20 Regions of Climate Action, a non-profit organization created by Schwarzenegger in 2010, with the aim of uniting cities, states, provinces, and other regions to create a network of bottom-up climate policies and actions that over time will lead to broader solutions on both the national and international levels.

WHAT: World Summit of Regions for Climate
R20 Regions of Climate Action will hold the World Summit of Regions on Climate in order to generate a multi-stakeholder "bottom-up" movement through the mobilization of regional and local stakeholders. The Summit will gather 500 participants, including regional leaders, government officials, heads of large corporations, investors, associations, and the media.

WHY:
The objective of the Summit is to bring together and engage a broad community of actors in the "bottom-up" approach: regions, cities, businesses, and financial institutions in different areas of the green economy, as well as civil society. The event will also be an opportunity to announce the creation and funding of innovative projects enabling the sustainable reduction of greenhouse gas emissions at the global level. The Summit is positioned within the "positive agenda" of COP21 preparations and represents a call to action on the sub-national level, for world leaders to unite and come to an agreement on universal climate change policies.
