Governor Rendell Signs Bill Naming Bridge in Memory of Sen. Rhoades
HARRISBURG, Pa., Nov. 18, 2010 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Governor Edward G. Rendell today signed into law House Bill 2614, which designates the State Route 4028/State Street bridge over the Schuylkill River in Tilden Township, Berks County, as the Senator Jim Rhoades Memorial Bridge.
"Senator Jim Rhoades was a terrific leader who helped shaped significant education policy in Pennsylvania for many years, including important initiatives that supported safe schools and the Head Start program," said Governor Rendell. "He has been sorely missed in his district and all across the state."
James J. Rhoades was a Republican member of the Pennsylvania Senate who represented the 29th Senatorial District from 1980 until his untimely death on Oct. 18, 2008, at age 66. He served as the chairman of the Senate Education Committee.
