Governor Rendell Lauds PA-Based Groups for Efforts to Rebuild Haiti's Education Infrastructure
HARRISBURG, Pa., Jan. 13, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Governor Edward G. Rendell today praised the efforts of two Pennsylvania-based groups, PHEELHaiti and the Haitian Connection Network, to rebuild Haiti's education infrastructure.
On Jan. 12, 2010, a 7.0 earthquake devastated Haiti. The United Nations estimates the quake killed more than 222,000 people, although the exact death toll will never be known.
To mark the quake's one-year anniversary, the Governor was joined today by representatives of both groups to help raise awareness of the struggles Haiti faces in rebuilding its schools and other critical infrastructure. The groups previewed a clip of a documentary about those challenges.
Many Haitians still live in tent cities. Many of the schools that have reopened are makeshift or hold classes outdoors.
