Governor Hogan's veto will stunt solar job growth
ANNAPOLIS, Md., May 31, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Following is a statement from Marta Tomic, representative of the Energy Freedom Coalition of America (EFCA) member company SolarCity, in response to the unexpected veto of the Clean Energy Jobs Act by Governor Larry Hogan:
"By vetoing the Clean Energy Jobs Act, Governor Hogan just missed an opportunity to support job growth in one of the fastest growing industries in Maryland. Last year, Maryland's solar industry saw a 42 percent increase in employment. The legislation would have supported the creation of over 1,000 jobs selling and installing over 250 Megawatts of solar across the state. The solar industry provides well-paying jobs, private sector investment, and real cost-saving solutions for Maryland residents, businesses, and local governments.
"We are disappointed by this action, but hope that Governor Hogan will work with the solar energy industry this summer on legislation for 2017 that will ensure Maryland's solar jobs are sustained and allowed to continue their explosive growth. Throughout his campaign, Governor Hogan touted his commitment to creating more good-paying jobs in the state; let's put that promise into action in 2017."
