Governor Corbett Tours Montgomery County Business, Discusses Jobs
LAFAYETTE HILL, Pa., May 24, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Governor Tom Corbett today toured the National Label Company, highlighting his commitment to growing the state's economy by helping create a climate where businesses can succeed and create jobs.
The Montgomery County business develops and produces innovative labeling solutions for some of the most well-known consumer brands.
Two brothers, Dean Shacklett and James Shacklett III, run the family-owned business founded by their grandfather in 1918. They are currently in the process of expanding their operation and plan to hire additional workers once the project is completed.
"Business leaders like the Shacklett brothers have to make tough decisions every day and especially during these economically challenging times," Corbett said. "My administration has had to make hard choices to address a $4.2 billion deficit. Nobody likes to cut funding, but if we don't do it now, our deficit will double. There is no way to do it painlessly, but doing nothing is not an option."
The budget refocuses and streamlines the state's support of free enterprise by supporting programs that encourage economic growth and job creation, while supporting incentives for new and creative ideas to improve business and industry.
"A budget has to be about jobs and that's what we're aiming for in this budget package. It took us years to get into this budget crisis and it is going to take a few years to get us out, but we have to start that process now," said Corbett.
"We are entering the homestretch on the state budget and I look forward to negotiating the final outcome with the state House and Senate," Corbett said. "However, there are two things on which I will not negotiate: we will not raise taxes, and we will not enact a budget that goes above $27.3 billion. We simply cannot save taxpayer money by spending beyond this plan."
Corbett's proposed budget contains no tax or fee increases and cuts government spending by 3 percent, most of which is done by consolidating programs, targeting inefficiencies and reducing or eliminating discretionary financial grants.
