Governor Corbett to Name Pedro Ramos as Chairman of Philadelphia School Reform Commission after Senate Confirmation
Governor Names Dr. Wendell Pritchett as Interim Chair
HARRISBURG, Pa., Oct. 5, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Governor Tom Corbett today announced he will name Pedro A. Ramos as chairman of the School Reform Commission after Ramos' nomination to the panel is confirmed by the Pennsylvania Senate.
Corbett nominated Ramos on June 16 to fill the vacancy created by David Girard-DiCarlo's departure from the commission last February.
Also today, Gov. Corbett named Dr. Wendell E. Pritchett, Chancellor of Rutgers University-Camden, as the commission's interim chair. Dr. Pritchett, of Philadelphia, was appointed to the commission by Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter on Sept. 20.
The School Reform Commission is the five-member governing body of the School District of Philadelphia. The commission was established in 2001 when control of the district was assumed by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The governor appoints three of the members, and the mayor of Philadelphia appoints two members.
The commission meets two Wednesdays each month.
