NEW YORK, June 3, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Ergo is pleased to announce that Governor Bill Richardson has joined the firm's Board of Advisors. Governor Richardson spent three decades in U.S. politics at the state and national levels, culminating in his two terms as Governor of New Mexico. He previously served as U.S. Secretary of Energy, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, and as a special envoy on sensitive diplomatic missions to North Korea, Sudan, Cuba, and Iraq. He sought the Democratic presidential nomination in 2008.
"A national leader and an international peacemaker, Governor Richardson is one of our era's great men," said Ergo's CEO, R.P. Eddy. "He has tackled some of the world's greatest political, economic, and security challenges. Ergo's clients are well served by his unparalleled experience and insights."
"Government policy and politics are playing increasingly important roles in the business environment in many countries, and Ergo has a unique ability to shed light on these often murky dynamics," said Governor Richardson. "I am excited to begin this new endeavor with Ergo."
Governor Richardson completed his second term as New Mexico's chief executive in 2011. He was first elected in 2002 and reelected in 2006 with 69 percent of the vote—the largest gubernatorial margin of victory in state history. As governor, he recorded significant achievements in the areas of clean energy, education, public safety, the environment, transportation, and healthcare, while securing $1 billion in tax cuts for New Mexicans.
In the late 1990s Governor Richardson served as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations and as U.S. Secretary of Energy. Prior to these appointments, he represented New Mexico's 3rd district in the U.S. House of Representatives for 15 years. While a congressman, Governor Richardson was tapped as a special envoy on many sensitive international missions. He successfully won the release of hostages, American servicemen, and prisoners in North Korea, Iraq, Cuba, and Sudan. He has been nominated several times for the Nobel Peace Prize.
He currently serves as Chairman of APCO Worldwide's executive advisory service, as Special Envoy for the Organization of American States (OAS), and on the boards of Abengoa International, WRI Resources Institute, Refugees International, and the National Council for Science and the Environment.
