Governor, Adjutant General and Pennsylvania National Guard Bring Holiday Spirit to Residents and Staff at State Veterans Homes
ANNVILLE, Pa., Dec. 21, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Governor Tom Wolf, Maj. Gen. Tony Carrelli, Pennsylvania's adjutant general, and numerous members of the Pennsylvania National Guard recently visited Commonwealth residents at Department of Military and Veterans Affairs' (DMVA) State Veterans Homes to spread holiday cheer.
"Visiting with some of Pennsylvania's proud veterans at the Southeastern Veterans' Center was a highlight and an honor," Governor Wolf said. "It is important that we remember our veterans year-round and not just at the holidays, and to thank them for their service. It was good to be able to do that in person recently."
"What a great honor to visit our brave veterans and thank them for their service to our country, especially during the holiday season," said Carrelli. "Spending time with America's greatest heroes and their families shows them that we still appreciate their great service and sacrifice despite the passage of time."
Gov. Wolf was able to lead the visit to the Southeastern Veterans' Center in Spring City, Chester County, along with Carrelli and the other men and women in uniform while they wished the residents and staff happy holidays.
"We appreciate the governor spending so much time with our veterans, families and staff, especially with his incredibly demanding schedule," said Carrelli. "His presence was a huge hit and certainly brightened an already special day for our Veterans' Home family."
In addition to Spring City, the five other State Veterans' Homes are: Delaware Valley Veterans' Home in Philadelphia; Gino J. Merli Veterans' Center in Scranton; Hollidaysburg Veterans' Home in Hollidaysburg; Pennsylvania Soldiers' and Sailors' Home in Erie; and the Southwestern Veterans' Center in Pittsburgh; Photos of the visit to each State Veterans Home can be viewed on Flickr at https://www.flickr.com/photos/padmva/albums.
The State Veterans Homes, operated by DMVA, offer personal and skilled nursing care to Pennsylvania veterans and their spouses.
