Government of Canada marks 65th anniversary of the start of the Korean War
OTTAWA, June 25, 2015 /CNW/ - The Honourable Erin O'Toole, Minister of Veterans Affairs, today issued the following statement to mark the 65th anniversary of the start of the Korean War.
"Today we pause to remember the start of the Korean War, which began on June 25, 1950.
"The outbreak of war in Korea came just five short years after the end of the Second World War, and tens of thousands of Canadians, yet again, answered the call in the name of freedom.
"Canada and South Korea share a strong relationship that was forged during our joint defence of peace and democracy.
"Our relationship is built on trade, education, people-to-people ties and shared remembrance for the sacrifices of the brave men and women who served during the Korean War."
