OTTAWA, Ontario, Sept. 11, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- GTEC, Canada's largest government technology event, today announced Corinne Charette, CIO, Government of Canada, will address delegates as she helps kick-off the 22nd edition of the conference. Her keynote presentation will set the stage for the event's agenda and key themes this year, including a focus on government from the 'Outside In'. GTEC will present a thought-provoking keynote and conference program around the new challenges and opportunities in government IT, focusing specifically on technology's role in responding to ever-demanding citizen expectations. GTEC runs October 27–30, 2014 at the Ottawa Convention Centre. To register or for more information, visit: www.gtec.ca.
Charette's keynote address, Setting the Stage for GTEC 2014, will take place Tuesday, October 28 at 8:55 am. Charette was the former Honorary Chair to GTEC for 5 years and has served as the CIO for the Government of Canada since May 2009. Charette is responsible for leading policy development and enablement, management oversight and community capacity development for six policy areas: information management, information technology, identity management and security, access to information, privacy, and internal and external services. She is very well positioned to engage with the GTEC audience on how government, together with ICT partners, can enhance the quality of experience for citizens.
Following Charette's presentation, GTEC will present an international keynote panel with the International Council for IT in Government Administration (ICA). Moderator Dave Adamson, Deputy CIO for the Government of Canada, will lead the discussion about how digitization can contribute to fiscal balance, enhance returns on investments and build successful future-ready digital governments that can enhance citizen services and engagement, drive internal efficiencies within government, and boost economic growth.
The ICA Panel, Smart Investments for Future Digital Government, will take place Tuesday, October 28 at 9:15 am. Panelists include:
- Corinne Charette, CIO, Government of Canada
- Chan Cheow Hoe, CIO, Government of Singapore
- Frank De Saer, CIO, Ministry of Economy, Belgium
- Howard Jyan, Director General, Department of Information Management, National Development Council, Taiwan

"Building the infrastructure for the future requires much research and investment. The Canadian government, like many organizations worldwide, is embracing mobile, big data, social technologies and more, but must operate within budget and procurement restraints," said GTEC Executive Director Michele Lajeunesse. "GTEC is pleased to have Corinne Charette and Dave Adamson joined by international counterparts to present a global perspective on making smart ICT investments that build successful, future-ready digital governments which can enhance citizen services and engagement."
GTEC includes a two-day expo, Canada's largest showcase of technologies and services for advancing the business of ICT in government. The Expo Hall will welcome more than 160 companies on October 28 and 29. GTEC also hosts the coveted Distinction Awards and Gala, which recognizes excellence in public service information technology and information management in Canada.
