Government Executive Media Group Shatters Digital Traffic Record
GovExec.com & Nextgov.com surge past 5.3 million page views in March; App downloads eclipse 30,000
WASHINGTON, April 17, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Government Executive Media Group announced today that it achieved a record-breaking traffic month in March with over 5.3 million page views across its digital platforms, including GovExec.com, its mobile apps, and Nextgov.com.1 The publisher's performance broke its previous record set during the federal government shutdown crisis in 2011.
Already the #1 media platform visited by federal managers,2 Government Executive Media Group's accelerating traffic growth in 2013 has resulted in a widening audience lead over competitor federal media sites.3 In addition to page views, the publisher attracted over 800,000 unique visitors during March – also a record.
"Federal managers today are making transformative decisions about how they will meet the goals of their programs," said Tim Hartman, President, Government Executive Media Group. "The record-breaking traffic on GovExec.com and Nextgov.com reflects their insatiable hunger for insights and solutions as they make the tough choices that today's budget environment requires."
Government Executive Media Group has also achieved unprecedented jumps in usage through the rapid adoption of its iPhone and Android apps. The GovExec.com apps have been downloaded by over 30,000 people who generated over 1.1 million page views in March.1 Federal readers of GovExec.com have extended their media usage through the apps, with desktop traffic highest during business hours and apps traffic higher from 6pm to 11pm.
"Federal managers' information consumption habits, and their choice of technology platforms, are evolving rapidly," said Krystle Kopacz, General Manager, Digital, for Government Executive Media Group. "We committed long ago to lead the market in understanding these trends and delivering the information our audience needs, when and where they need it."
Nextgov, the technology arm of Government Executive Media Group, has driven especially strong growth in 2013, increasing page views 47% year-to-date over 2012 levels.1 The leading technology web site since 2011,2,3 Nextgov's increasing traffic gap over competitor sites has been fueled in part by a series of innovative launches, including its new anchor technology event, Nextgov Prime, and the recently launched Nextgov Bold Awards designed to showcase success stories in federal technology innovation. Nextgov will soon launch ThreatWatch, a ground-breaking dashboard for federal cybersecurity professionals.
