Gov. Raimondo Asked to Rescind Unconditional Welcome to Syrian Refugees who Pose Serious Risks to Rhode Islanders, Especially to the Jewish Community
PROVIDENCE, R.I., Feb. 18, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On February 22, at 2:15-3:15 at the State House in Providence, former Congressman Pete Hoekstra (R-Mich), a former chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, joins Rhode Island State Representative Mike Chippendale, and Dr. Charles Jacobs, President of Americans for Peace and Tolerance, will call on Gov. Raimondo to reconsider her unconditional welcome to Syrian refugees.
Jacobs said, "We are a country of immigrants that welcomes people who come to join us and bolster our way of life. We sympathize with people fleeing war. But an influx of Syrian refugees may pose significant dangers to Rhode Islanders, especially to the Jewish community here."
"FBI Director James Comey and Director of National Intelligence James Clapper tell us that Syrian refugees cannot be properly vetted for connections to terrorism."
Jacobs added, "Throughout the national discussion, few have raised the question of deeply ingrained hatred of the West, especially of Jews, inculcated through Syrian educational intuitions – starting from childhood. Yet studies of Syrian school curricula and culture show that practically every Syrian will have been taught these hatreds. No one is talking about vetting for the threats posed by Syrian cultural antipathies to Western liberal values. Mainstream Jewish community leaders have failed to take note of these dangers."
One study of Syrian textbooks shows that children are indoctrinated to think it their duty to wage Jihad and become martyrs. Extermination of Jews is stated as an obligation in an eleventh-grade textbook.
Another report revealed Syrian school textbooks teach that Jews "are portrayed as enemies of Islam since its inception, of all mankind, [and] of God himself" and "The Holocaust is justified, though its magnitude is exaggerated…"
Jacobs said: "We need to heed the lessons of Europe. We are inviting in people from a radicalized culture that rejects tolerance and teaches hatred of women, gays, Jews, Christian and democracy. Jewish leaders in Europe have spoken about the growing violence against the Jewish community surging from Muslim immigrants. Before we can admit hundreds of these refugees to Rhode Island, we must first gauge the threat they pose and examine the ideas they support."
