Gov. Mitch Daniels to Receive Hudson Institute's Herman Kahn Award
Also to Speak: Former Vice President Dan Quayle and Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe
WASHINGTON, Oct. 12 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On Thursday, October 14th, Hudson Institute will honor Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels with the Herman Kahn Award. Former Vice President and Hudson Honorary Trustee Dan Quayle will present Daniels with the Institute's prestigious Kahn award for his distinguished career in public office. Also speaking at the Willard InterContinental Hotel event will be former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
Profiled by major media outlets as a leading potential presidential contender for 2012, Mitch Daniels' popular tenure as Governor has been marked by fiscal prudence, tax cuts, and an overhaul of state government. In 2005, Daniels led Indiana to its first balanced budget in eight years and — without a tax increase — transformed the $600 million deficit he inherited into an annual surplus of $370 million in one year. Because of Daniels' leadership, Indiana is a model for the nation.
A former President and CEO of Hudson Institute, Daniels also served as the cabinet-ranked Director of the Office of Management and Budget under President George W. Bush. "Governor Daniels was inspired by Hudson founder Herman Kahn to think creatively about today's policy challenges," said Hudson CEO Kenneth Weinstein. "The Governor's foresight and ability to turn the State of Indiana into a magnet for investment and a model of fiscal responsibility is a guide for every state in the Union."
Hudson Institute's Herman Kahn Award honors creative and visionary leaders who embody Kahn's dedication to strong American national security, a guarded optimism about the future, and an appreciation of the role of technology as a driver of global economic progress. Hudson Founder Herman Kahn (1922-1983) — a pioneer in strategic studies, a founder of future studies, and a leading public intellectual — would have been proud of the kind of leadership Governor Daniels has demonstrated throughout his career.
