Gore Joins Industry in Celebrating National Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Day
ELKTON, Md., Oct. 8, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, W.L. Gore & Associates (Gore) joins the nation in celebrating National Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Day to raise awareness of fuel cell and hydrogen technologies that provide reliable and resilient power, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and increase America's energy security.
The 8th of October was chosen to observe National Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Day in recognition of the atomic weight of hydrogen (1.008).
Fuel cells utilize hydrogen and hydrogen rich fuels in a chemical reaction without combustion to generate electricity in a way that is clean, efficient and quiet.
"Gore is proud to be one of many companies and organizations participating in National Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Day," said Laura Geiman, US Sales Leader, Gore Fuel Cell Technologies. "We are part of a robust industry and proud of the growing role of this proven technology in providing sustainable transportation, improved business operations, and resilient power."
Gore has been active in fuel cell technology since the late 1970s and has developed a portfolio of fuel cell membranes (GORE-SELECT® Membranes) that are known to the industry as having the highest performance and highest durability, two key factors in the life of an automotive power train. Gore Fuel Cell components are used in thousands of fuel cell applications worldwide, including transportation, stationary and back-up power, portable power and co-generation.
Gore maintains research, testing and manufacturing facilities for fuel cell components in the US and Japan and has sales offices worldwide.
The continued growth of this industry is in America's strong national interest. "We join with others in this industry in supporting government policies that place fuel cell vehicles on an equal footing with other electric vehicles," added Laura Keough, Business Leader, Gore Fuel Cell Technologies.
"The fuel cell and hydrogen energy industry has grown tremendously since its start with the United States space program. Today, more than 100,000 fuel cell systems are in operation generating clean power for vehicles, forklifts, utilities, businesses, homes, and more," said Morry Markowitz, President of the Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Energy Association (FCHEA).
