Goodwin Procter Bolsters Capital Markets Expertise in Asia
Adds Hong Kong Law Capability
BOSTON, Feb. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Goodwin Procter announced today that Loretta Lau is joining the firm as a corporate finance partner in its Business Law Department. She will be resident in Hong Kong and will work closely with Goodwin Procter's corporate practice in the U.S. in continuing to grow the firm's presence and expand its client base in Asia. The addition allows Goodwin Procter to advise clients on various aspects of Hong Kong law.
Lau's practice includes advising on all aspects of corporate law, with a focus on mergers and acquisitions, capital markets, IPOs, private equity and foreign direct investments, Sino-foreign joint ventures, debt restructurings and workouts, as well as takeovers and privatizations. She advises international corporations and those in the People's Republic of China, as well as top-tier investment banks throughout Southeast Asia, with a focus on Hong Kong and the PRC. Prior to joining Goodwin Procter, she was a partner at Mayer Brown.
"Loretta's expertise in corporate finance, capital markets and securities transactions complements Goodwin's expertise in corporate finance in the U.S., with a special focus on private equity, venture capital, technology companies and fund formation in Hong Kong," said Regina M. Pisa, chairman and managing partner of Goodwin Procter. "The Asian markets continue to be an area we have targeted for investment."
"Loretta will be an instrumental part of our team and bolster our capabilities in serving clients, particularly those in Hong Kong, the People's Republic of China and Asia, in a broad range of complex transactions," said Yash Rana, partner in charge of Goodwin Procter's Hong Kong office.
Goodwin Procter's Securities and Corporate Finance practice has technical depth across the full range of the equity and debt capital markets, including IPOs, shelf offerings, convertible and equity-linked instruments, and high-yield debt. The firm also tops the league tables in the increasingly important segment of alternative equity investment structures like PIPEs, registered directs, confidentially marketed public offerings, at-the-market offerings, continuous offering programs, and underwritten registered directs. In addition to the transactional practice, attorneys advise management and boards of directors as they structure financings for both organic growth and growth through acquisitions.
Goodwin Procter established an office in Hong Kong in 2008, its first office in Asia. Located in the Central District of Hong Kong, in the Bank of China Tower, it affords Goodwin Procter the opportunity to continue to grow its base in Hong Kong while exploring the possibility of additional office locations in Asia.
Lau was admitted as a solicitor in Hong Kong in 1993 and in England and Wales in 1999. She holds a diploma in PRC Law from the China University of Political Science and Law, in Beijing and graduated from the University of Hong Kong, LL.B and P.C.LL. Lau speaks fluent Cantonese, Mandarin and English.
