Goodwill Honors its Greatest Annual Achievers

BALTIMORE, May 23, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On May 25, 2011 Goodwill Industries of the Chesapeake will hold its 55th Annual Awards Luncheon, sponsored by PNC Bank at the Renaissance Hotel, in downtown Baltimore.

The Annual Awards Luncheon provides an opportunity for business leaders to learn more about the inspiring work done by Goodwill Industries of the Chesapeake, Inc.

This year's event will celebrate Goodwill's Achiever and Graduate of the Year, Troy Bradner and Martina Thomas.

Mr. Bradner went to Goodwill with absolutely no employment history, on the verge of eviction, and possible separation from his wife and child but with the help of Goodwill's supportive staff Mr. Brander is now employed (at Goodwill) and actively taking steps to build a better future for himself and his family.

Ms. Thomas is a single mother of two who needed help obtaining her GED, employment, and securing child care. By utilizing Goodwill's Waverly Family Support Center, Ms. Thomas was able to prepare for her GED and find full time employment as a geriatric nursing assistant. Ms. Thomas continues to move forward and is earning her college degree.

This year's luncheon will also feature the showing of "For Once in My Life" the highly acclaimed, award winning documentary featuring members of the Miami Goodwill Band. Goodwill Industries of the Chesapeake, Inc.'s President and CEO Marge Thomas noted, "The stories shared in 'For Once In My Life' and the accomplishments of Tony and Martina highlight and exemplify the amazing work done by Goodwills across the nation. Too often society limits people from reaching their full potential by placing labels on them.
