Goodrich Deane Family Establish $1.7 Million Endowment at Southern California University of Health Sciences
Gift Will Support SCU's Mission of Transforming the Future of Healthcare through Interprofessional Practice and Education and Health Creation
WHITTIER, Calif., Aug. 4, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Goodrich Deane (Richard and Joanne Goodrich and Douglas Deane) family has pledged $1.7 million to Southern California University of Health Sciences (SCU), demonstrating a deep commitment to the university's future and to a continued vision of excellence and leadership in educating competent and caring integrative practitioners in an evidence-based and interprofessional environment.
The donation, which honors the legacy of SCU Alumnae, Dr. Dana Goodrich Deane, (DC, 1992)—has two significant outcomes:
- The Dana Goodrich Deane Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $15,000 per year for two years will be awarded to two chiropractic students in their 4th term who have demonstrated a strong interest in integrative health.
- The Dana Goodrich Deane Impact Society - Members are devoted to redefining healthcare delivery and education by providing core funding support for the most important needs of the university.
Dr. Goodrich Deane, DC was an integrative health practitioner ahead of her time. Like SCU, she envisioned a patient-centered practice that focused on whole person health and active referrals across all health care disciplines. She was described by her clients as deeply caring, thorough, and thoughtful. She was passionate about addressing the root cause of a health issue, which led her to weave nutrition and mind-body stress reduction techniques into her practice. She was also dedicated to excellence, life-long learning, and mastered her craft. She built her practice on compassion, building long-term partnerships with empowered clients to co-create health.
"We wanted to honor Dana, but it was more than that," says Goodrich Deane family spokesperson, Michael Goodrich. "We want to help create more practitioners like her because the world needs them. Our expectations coming to campus were high and you have exceeded them. We were blown away and are confident that SCU will be the integrative health university to change healthcare."
