Good Technology's "Bring Your Own Device" Model Supports iPhone and iPad Use for West Virginia Government Agencies
CHARLESTON, W.Va. and REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., June 14, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Good Technology (www.good.com) today announced the West Virginia state government is the first to implement Good Technology's enterprise mobility platform as the new standard for secure smartphone management. This integration will enable government employees across West Virginia state agencies to securely use smartphones, tablets and other emerging cellular technologies for work related activities without fear of exposing or compromising protected government or citizen information.
Until a state contract recently approved the use of iPhones and iPads for government use, staffers were limited to using only BlackBerry's for accessing work-related email.
"With new smartphones and new ways to access information, we believe other states will follow our lead in adopting Good's secure approach to government mobility management," said West Virginia's Chief Technology Officer, Kyle Schafer.
Rob West, acting Director of Client Services for the State of West Virginia, added, "We needed a way to securely support emerging Smartphone technologies and the many new feature and applications these devices offered to our employees. The Good platform gives us that flexibility coupled with unparalleled security to protect government and citizen data. As a result, we are no longer limited to the functions and features of traditional cell phones and Blackberry devices".
The State of West Virginia plans to use Good for Enterprise from Good Technology to support more than 1,000 individual devices by the end of the year.
"West Virginia is leading the way by providing device choice and enhanced productivity for its employees, which leads to better services for taxpayers," said John Herrema, senior vice president of corporate strategy at Good Technology. "Using Good Technology shows how seriously the West Virginia Office of Technology takes its mission to secure protected government and citizen information, and we appreciate their support as we work together to make this a model for enhanced productivity, service to citizens, and security that all state governments can follow."
Some of the Good product features being used by West Virginia include:
- Wireless push email, full calendar and contacts management support
- Secure mobile access to Web-enabled applications and resources behind the corporate firewall
- Clean separation of enterprise from personal data, including the ability to remote wipe enterprise data while leaving personal data intact
- Comprehensive security including end-to-end encryption of data and the ability to set security policies that prevent data loss to unsecured consumer apps
- A single, integrated, Web-based management console, including employee self-service capabilities
