Eurotunnel is the world leader of railroad transport, comprised of several active companies in the fields of infrastructure management and transport operations. Security is at the core of these activities: its infrastructures are protected at all times by several dozens of security agents due to the company's status as an Operator of Vital Importance in France. Its rail shuttles carry 2.5 million cars and 1.5 million trucks every year. In order to respond to the demand of managers who wanted to connect to their professional email accounts from their mobile devices (BYOD), the Eurotunnel IT department chose to analyze the solutions available on the market.
Objective: find a solution that would allow managers to access their emails, but also to manage their contacts and their professional calendars on their professional smartphones without compromising security for the company's data.
The solution proposed by Good Technology was selected on two principle criteria: security and performance.
"The Good for Enterprise solution won hands down," recalls Jean Brunier, IT director for the group.
After a test that was approved by the employees, Eurotunnel deployed hundreds of GFE licenses. Since then, Eurotunnel managers have taken advantage of the possibilities of mobile collaboration offered by Good and can safely connect to their professional email from any mobile device.
What's next? "Developing the Virtual Private Network provided by Good Technology, that enables secure connection to the company's web applications, essentially via tablets," responds Jean Brunier.
This is an action that should strengthen responsiveness of the company since these applications make it possible to declare an incident or ask for intervention on the rail network. Eurotunnel is also looking to equip its train conductors who do not have laptop computers with tablets.
"This will keep them from having to connect in the staff lounge, but also from constantly carrying around a small suitcase with, among other things, the required technical documents on the train," explains Jean Brunier.
