The widespread enterprise adoption of iPads and tablets has led to an explosion in iOS app development. According to Forrester Research, Inc., "As consumer devices such as iPhones and iPads proliferate in the enterprise and among consumers, the number of organizations interested in custom development of mobile applications is steadily on the rise. Security, although a prime driver for custom development, is one of the hardest aspects to get right."(1)
With Good Dynamics, companies like Box are able to leverage Good Technology's proven security capabilities to build customized, mobile versions of their popular applications in an easy, secure and cost-effective way. Unlike VPN-based solutions that open up a company's network to any application or device, Good Dynamics provides the ability to secure applications and data end-to-end. In the event the device is compromised, lost, or stolen, businesses can simply kill the Good Dynamics-secured application without compromising music, photos, and other personal data present elsewhere on an employee's mobile device. With Good Dynamics, businesses can enhance employee productivity with the popular applications they want to use, while being confidence that enterprise data will not be compromised.
Box has integrated Good Dynamics technology to secure the Box iOS mobile application and data on the device itself, ensuring that its customers' employees can securely access Box files from any device and location. The Box for Good Technology application also allows employees to share content with people outside the four walls of the organization, such as customers and partners, by simply sharing a secure link.
"Smartphones, tablets and mobile applications have created a dramatic cultural shift in the way today's organizations conduct business," said Karen Appleton, Vice President of Business Development at Box. "CIOs are looking for proven cloud services that provide trusted security controls to enable their employees to safely work across organizations, from any device and location. Together, Box and Good Technology provide the mobile enterprise with simple and secure tools to increase business productivity and capitalize on the mobile revolution."
Good Dynamics Developer Network Now Open to Broader Development Community
The Good Dynamics Developer Network (GDN) program, which includes direct access to the Good Dynamics SDK and servers, resources, and support needed to build and deploy secure mobile applications quickly and effectively – is now available to independent mobile application developers. Previously available by invitation-only, the community successfully recruited over 230 developers and has engaged with 30 leading ISV partners since its launch in November 2011. Developers simply plug the Good Dynamics code libraries into their applications to secure data at-rest and in-transit. Good Technology maintains the Network Operating Center (NOC) infrastructure, resources and support staff, which eliminates the need for customers to add systems, space, and people. Unlike other approaches—such as VPN solutions that allow every application on the device to access the company's corporate network—Good Dynamics restricts the access only to the company's approved and provisioned applications. Developers interested in enrolling in the Good Dynamics Developer Network program can find more information here.
Good Dynamics Built, Veracode Tested
All Good Dynamics-based applications are submitted by developers for independent security review to Veracode, the leader in cloud-based application security testing. As a Good Dynamics Developer Network partner, Veracode allows developers using the Good Dynamics platform to upload applications to the cloud where they are analyzed for known and often unknown vulnerabilities and against security policies developed by Good Technology and tested by Veracode. If vulnerabilities are discovered during the testing process, the Veracode platform provides recommended steps for remediation. Once developers have remediated flaws, they will resubmit to ensure the app is free of critical weaknesses before it is made available to enterprises or consumers. Good Technology believes secure coding, security testing and basic security precautions should not be an afterthought in today's rapid mobile app development process, and they have chosen Veracode to provide a higher level of assurance that all Good Dynamics apps meet their security policies.
"The mobile enterprise application market is exploding due to the productivity gains mobility provides. This explosion is further challenging mobile application developers to strike a balance between the rich features people expect and maintaining the level of security the enterprise requires," said Herve Danzelaud, Vice President of Business Development, Good Technology. "With Good Dynamics, corporate developers and partners alike can build secure versions of today's most popular apps to use within their enterprise without the worry of opening up their networks to threats or the risk of data loss. We're excited to be working with some of the top application providers, like Box, to help increase employee productivity without compromising security."
