About PROTOTYPES
PROTOTYPES opened its doors in 1986 with a mission of creating innovative models of service delivery to ensure that women and children can receive comprehensive services in one healing structure. Prior to PROTOTYPES, women facing issues such as substance abuse, mental illness, homelessness, HIV/AIDS and domestic violence could only receive necessary services if they turned their children over to the foster care system or left them with family. In response to these serious gaps in treatment, PROTOTYPES designed integrated programs where women could receive treatment for a multitude of complex issues concurrently while keeping their children alongside them in a safe, nurturing environment helping to end the intergenerational cycle of addiction and abuse. Today, PROTOTYPES has locations across Southern California serving more than 15,000 women, children and men each year and has evolved into one of the nation's leading social service organizations and a prototype for nonprofit agencies everywhere.
