Golf Academy of America Claims Success After Staging Nationwide Golf Marathon at All Campus Locations on 11-11-11 to Honor Veterans Day
BIRMINGHAM, Ala., Nov. 16, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Golf Academy of America (GAA), the world's largest and longest-running two-year golf career college in the world, announced today the success of five all-day golf marathons held on November 11, 2011 in honor of Veterans Day. The all-day golf events were held in cities where GAA campuses are located including: Myrtle Beach; Orlando; Dallas; Phoenix; and San Diego and raised money and awareness for the Wounded Warrior Project.
The 11-11-11 events were highlighted by 21-year Air Force veteran and current GAA Myrtle Beach student Mark Chapman who played 11 rounds of golf in under 11 hours at Waterway Hills Golf Club. Chapman's 11-round journey started at 6:28 a.m. and concluded when he holed out on the 198th hole at 4:47 p.m., in an official time of 10 hours, 18 minutes and nine seconds. Chapman scored 994 for the 11 rounds, an average of 90.3 per round.
In the other locations, each campus fielded a foursome composed of students who were military veterans, or GAA employees. Each foursome played golf for 11 hours, 11 minutes and 11 seconds on 11-11-11. Here is a recap of those efforts:
In Orlando, Ryan Patterson (Navy); Vic Smith (Air Force); Dustin Stearns (Air Force); and Steve Sullivan (Air Force); completed 50 holes at Wekiva Golf Club in Longwood, Florida.
In Dallas, GAA campus director Greg Gossett was joined by Michael Saunders (Navy); GAA staff member John Keriazakos; and GAA graduate and admissions representative Kevin Kretkovics to play 45 holes at Brookhaven Country Club.
In Phoenix, Josh Anders (Army); Gerald Bohl (Air Force); Vincent Green (Army); and Robert Wilcox (Navy) played 45 holes at Ocotillo Golf Resort in Chandler, Ariz.
Lastly, in San Diego, Joseph Brown (Navy); Michael Farabee (Marine Corps); Cole Lafferty (Navy); and John Thomas (Navy) completed 54 holes at Camp Pendleton Marine Memorial Golf Course.
Cumulatively, among 17 players nationwide, GAA students, staff and military veterans played 929 holes and raised more than $1,500 for the Wounded Warrior Project.
