Golden Retriever Is Washington, D.C.'s Most Popular Breed
Nationally, Labrador Retriever Remains America's Most Popular
NEW YORK, March 20, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- The Golden Retriever is the leader of the pack in Washington D. C., inching ahead of the Lab in the American Kennel Club's (AKC®) 2018 ranking of the most popular AKC-recognized dog breeds in the U.S.
The Golden Retriever was also recognized as the #1 pup in Charlotte and Boston.
The Golden Retriever, which has always come 2nd to the Labrador Retriever nationally as well as in many cities, has finally made the big leap to the number 1 spot.
"It's also interesting to see working breeds – specifically the Doberman Pinscher (ranked 10th) and Rottweiler (9th) – break into the top 10 list," said AKC Executive Secretary Gina DiNardo. "Working dogs are known for their tremendous strength, endurance and intelligence, but what many individuals don't know is that most make great companions as well."
