Premier personal finance website GOBankingRates highlights City County CU for its support of underserved college-bound students; those who aspire for careers that are critical for society and are often overlooked at scholarship time
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., July 10, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- GOBankingRates commends its client City County Credit Union for awarding two Broward County seniors $500 scholarships through its partnership with Kiwanis Club of Lauderdale Lakes. As a leading personal finance and consumer banking website, GOBankingRates seeks to honor financial institutions that give back to their community members.
Working together for a second consecutive year, the 62-year-old Broward-based credit union and the international coeducational service club presented the scholarships on May 20 at the Kiwanis Club Lauderdale Lakes location, with the city's mayor, Barrington Russell, Sr., in attendance.
The 2014 recipients included:
- Jahmel Francis: a devoted student and football player known for his playing ability, often recognized for the strong example he sets in the classroom and on the playing field.
- Jai Rampersad: a caring and optimistic student pursuing a career in nursing, with a current internship at Sunrise Pediatrics and membership with the Health Occupations Students of America.
"These young people from traditionally underserved groups will enter professions that are the backbone of our society, performing services that are indispensable to our way of life," said Sandra Spence, vice president of advertising and public relations for City County Credit Union. "We are privileged to assist them in their career paths, knowing that we will all benefit from their hard work and industry."
"The best credit unions not only improve the financial well-being of members, but the entire community. City County is a perfect example of that," said Casey Bond, content director for GOBankingRates.
