To find the best financial institutions that meet consumers' needs, the Best Banks of 2016 report examined products and services from 120 banks, including the top 100 FDIC-insured banks by asset size. Out of the 120 banks surveyed 90 are brick-and-mortar banks, 11 are online-only banks, and an additional 19 are online-only banks that offer services nationally. These financial institutions were ranked to find the best banks in five categories:
- Best National Banks
- Best Online Banks
- Best Checking Accounts
- Best Savings Accounts
- Best CD Accounts
The top 10 banks will be named in each of the five categories.
Important factors considered when determining the rankings include, among other factors:
- Interest rates
- Monthly fees
- Minimum balance requirements
- Customer service
- Accessibility
