High Availability Industry Aligns Around Standards and Open Source; OpenSAF Developer Days Conference to Help Transition
DANVILLE, Calif., March 25 /PRNewswire/ -- The OpenSAF™ Foundation today announced that GoAhead Software, a leading provider of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) high availability middleware, is the latest company to join the OpenSAF Foundation. In addition to bringing significant resources and experience in high availability to the OpenSAF project, GoAhead Software will also join the Board of Directors of the OpenSAF Foundation.
The move is significant as it marks a major milestone in the ongoing transition from proprietary to open source middleware solutions with OpenSAF fast becoming the de facto solution for high availability middleware. This follows the growing trend of open and standards-based software being adopted and deployed in mission-critical environments.
"We believe this is the right time to join the OpenSAF Foundation and, with the acquisition of Emerson's Avantellis™ product line, align our business model with an open source direction" said Asif Naseem, President and COO of GoAhead Software. "Our engineering team is now focused on OpenSAF and our related distribution, and we believe we are in a position to make a significant and positive impact on the project on behalf of our customers and the OpenSAF community.".
"GoAhead Software is a recognized leader in the open specification community for high availability middleware in telecommunications and defense marketplaces" said Monica Hatlen, president of OpenSAF Foundation. "We look forward to GoAhead Software contributing its experience and knowledge to the OpenSAF project and to strengthening the support activities of the OpenSAF Foundation."
To encourage greater use of open source and to ease the migration to the OpenSAF code base within the Service Availability ecoculture, the OpenSAF project is holding its third annual Developer Days in Silicon Valley. Existing users of proprietary high availability middleware solutions are encouraged to attend the Developer Days Conference to learn the latest on how they might benefit from, and contribute to, the OpenSAF project. The Developer Days Conference is being held on May 24-25 at the HP facilities in Palo Alto, California. Participation is free to all registrants. Details and registration information can be found on the OpenSAF website
