GO Group Lists Top Holiday Festivities

CHICAGO, Nov. 20, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The holidays are just around the corner and there are festivals and parades to delight the entire family. The travel experts at The GO Group, LLC, want you to know about some of their favorite celebrations.

On the Saturday before Thanksgiving, Chicago hosts The BMO Harris Bank Magnificent Mile Lights Festival with an estimated one million lights on 200 trees along the city's famous Michigan Avenue. Hosted by the Greater North Michigan Avenue Association, it is one of the largest holiday celebrations in the country and includes a parade marshaled by Mickey and Minnie Mouse from Disney World; a tree-lighting ceremony and fireworks over the river.

This year, New York will light its famous tree in Rockefeller Plaza on December 3, kicking off with live musical performances. The ceremony is free and tens of thousands are expected attend with millions more watching the live international broadcast. The tree will remain lit and open to the public until January 7.

The Hollywood Christmas Parade, formerly the Hollywood Santa Parade, takes place on the Sunday after Thanksgiving in Los Angeles. The mile-long parade route follows Hollywood Boulevard and features various celebrities among its participants. Musician Stevie Wonder is this year's Grand Marshall.

For more than 30 years, the San Antonio's River Walk has hosted it annual Ford Holiday River Parade and Lighting Ceremony. The event features illuminated floats with celebrities, bands and costumed participants. This year's event takes place on November 28 from 7 – 9 p.m. Gordon Hartman is the Grand Marshall for the 2014 Ford Holiday River Parade and this year's theme is "Holiday Celebrations Around the World." Tickets are on sale now but will the price increase by $5 the day of the parade.
