Washington, D.C.: Earth Day Cleanup at the National Zoo On April 22, visitors can join zoo staff in keeping the ecosystem healthy and picking up litter, aluminum cans, etc. that will be sorted into recyclables and trash. The zoo's Green Team will discuss sustainability initiatives, and representatives from other organizations will talk about what can be done locally about global issues. Games and activities will be available for children.
Los Angeles: Held at Woodley Park in Lake Balboa, WorldFest is a solar-powered celebration of music, the environment, animals and humanity. The day will feature music and speakers on the environment and animal welfare while kids' activities and a food court make for a family-friendly experience.
Kansas City, Mo.: The 15th annual EarthWalk will be held April 16 at Theis Park. Money raised from the event supports Bridging The Gap programs that educate and engage the community in sustainability.
Denver, Col.: Denver hosts its Earth Day Fair on April 22, 10 a.m. at Civic Center Park. Activities, exhibits and displays from nonprofit organizations, private companies and city agencies will provide information and inspiration to encourage visitors to honor the Earth and make efforts toward conservation.
Seattle: The Washinton CoastSavers Alliance will host a beach cleanup at more than 20 sites along Washington's Pacific coast. Load up the kids and the dog and drive to the coast to preserve a great treasure. The clean up takes place on April 23 at 8 a.m. followed by volunteer appreciation BBQs at many locations.
