GMC Donates 70 NFL Super Bowl XLV Tickets to United Way
Auction Proceeds Will Support Youth Health and Wellness Initiatives
DETROIT, Dec. 1, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- GMC, the official vehicle of the National Football League, is donating 70 Super Bowl XLV tickets to United Way Worldwide to help advance the organization's youth health and wellness goals.
The tickets for the game on Feb. 6, 2011 at Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas, will be offered in packages at http://www.nflauction.nfl.com from December 1 through January 9, 2011. All 35 packages include two game tickets, a four-night stay at an NFL-sanctioned hotel and an invitation to a private meet-and-greet with former NFL players; including Super Bowl champion Deion Sanders. Special additions also are included in many of the packages, including $100 NFL Shop gift cards, NFL gift bags and select NFL player memorabilia.
"GMC is excited about teaming up with the United Way to send 70 lucky NFL fans to the biggest event in professional sports," said Craig Bierley, director, Buick GMC Advertising and Sales Promotion. "Being the official vehicle of the NFL, GMC shares the never say never attitude that gets teams to the top and helps communities stay strong."
The auction is expected to net in excess of $250,000, all of which will go toward the support of the NFL and United Way Hometown Huddle – a league-wide day of hands-on community service projects designed to give kids more opportunities to get active and healthy.
Now in its 37th year, the NFL-United Way partnership connects NFL PLAY 60 with United Way's 2018 goal for youth health and wellness. Studies show the obesity rate among children has nearly doubled in the last 10 years, with approximately 9 million American children over 6 years old considered obese and at high risk for health problems such as diabetes and heart disease.
The NFL and United Way partnership is leveraging resources and relationships to raise awareness about the issue of childhood obesity and create new opportunities for young people to lead healthier lifestyles.
"By teaming up with United Way and NFL, GMC and General Motors will help promote exercise and nutrition as part of a healthier lifestyle," said Tracey Holmes, NFL partnership director at United Way Worldwide. "Their participation will help us meet our 2018 goal to get 1.9 million more kids healthy and active."
