Globe University and Minnesota School of Business Announce 2014-15 We Care Award Recipients
Local high schools awarded scholarships to attend Youth Frontiers retreat
MINNEAPOLIS, Feb. 11, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Globe University and Minnesota School of Business have selected eight 2014-15 We Care Award recipients: Litchfield High School (Litchfield, Minn.), Columbus High School (Columbus, Wis.), Preble High School (Green Bay, Wis.), which will receive two retreats, Richfield High School (Richfield, Minn.), Austin High School (Austin, Minn.), New Lisbon Senior High School/Royall/Necedah (Wis.), and Coon Rapids High School (Coon Rapids, Minn.). The We Care Award is a way for the colleges to give back through education to the campus communities and to support positive character building in local high schools.
The We Care Award provides high schools with a complimentary Youth Frontiers retreat. Youth Frontiers is a nonprofit, non-partisan organization that partners with schools to build positive communities where students thrive socially, emotionally and academically. Its vision is to change the way kids treat each other in every hallway, lunch line and classroom in America. Youth Frontiers' goals directly align with the Globe University and Minnesota School of Business We Care mission of building communities through education.
"Globe University and Minnesota School of Business have sponsored Youth Frontiers retreats in our campus communities for the last seven years," says Mindy Myhre, director of community service and charitable giving. "We Care is so integral to everything we do, and working with Youth Frontiers is one of the ways we love helping thousands of local high school students gain important skills they will use throughout their lives."
High schools across Minnesota, Wisconsin and the Sioux Falls area were eligible to apply for a retreat funded entirely by Globe University and Minnesota School of Business. The awarded schools explained how a retreat would align with their current goals, and how their school would benefit from a Youth Frontiers retreat. During the Respect and Wisdom retreats, freshman and sophomore students will become energized to respect themselves more, to respect others and to stand up for respect in their schools. Seniors will reflect on their high school experience and learn how to finish off their high school career in a respectful and caring way.
"We are thankful for the opportunities Globe University and Minnesota School of Business continue to give local high school students," says Joe Cavanaugh, founder and CEO of Youth Frontiers. "We teach values because we want today's young people to make tomorrow's world better, and the kindness of Globe University and Minnesota School of Business allows us to reach more students year after year."
Two additional 2014-15 We Care Award scholarships will be awarded, for a total of 10 recipients.
