MINNEAPOLIS, Sept. 21, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Globe University & Minnesota School of Business (GU & MSB) today announced a new agreement with Massage Envy to address the growing need for massage therapists in the Twin Cities market.
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports the demand for qualified massage therapists nationwide is expected to grow 23 percent by 2022. This is due to an increased interest in health, wellness and the role massage plays in that effort. The Twin Cities is no exception.
The GU & MSB program offers a curriculum combining classroom training with on-site experience over the course of nine months. Students may qualify for a job with independently owned and operated Minnesota Massage Envy franchises after completing the second quarter of coursework. To qualify all candidates will need to go through background and reference checks and require a valid massage therapist's license or certification depending on state licensure requirements.
"This program not only provides students with a career-focused education, but the opportunity to apply their skills with Massage Envy, who are experts in the industry," says Jeff Myhre, CEO of Globe University & Minnesota School of Business. "We're always looking for ways to partner with businesses in the area to give our students that real-world experience they need to successfully enter the workforce."
"This career is attractive for those wanting to work flexible hours in a health and wellness environment," said Gary Meyers, Massage Envy regional developer. "This is one example of ways we work with local schools to get qualified professionals into a great career with excellent earning potential."
This program is being offered at GU & MSB campuses in Plymouth, Lakeville, Blaine, Elk River and Woodbury. Qualified candidates may be eligible for up to $4,625 in scholarships and may apply to receive credit for work experience.*
