Globe and Mail Readership Continues to Climb: NADbank Survey Reveals Five Per Cent Increase

Globe and Mail readership grows: Attracting more professionals, women and young adults

TORONTO, March 29, 2012 /PRNewswire/ - NADbank today released new readership data from 2011 revealing that The Globe and Mail nationally attracted a combined average weekly readership of 3.3 million - with a 5 per cent increase in weekday readership and a 13 per cent increase in weekly online readership. The survey also reveals that in addition to growing its core audience of managers and professionals, the 2010 redesign of The Globe and Mail has promoted double digit growth among younger females.

According to NADbank, The Globe and Mail's weekday newspaper readership is up 5 per cent year-over-year to 992,000, including a 24 per cent increase in Vancouver, and 3 per cent in Toronto.  Saturday readership is up 3 per cent to 1,101,000, with the most notable gain among younger females. The Globe showed substantial growth among this audience - up 23 per cent with 18-24 year old females, and up 24 per cent with 25-34 year old females. NADbank also revealed another significant jump for traffic at globeandmail.com, increasing by 13 per cent to 1,494,000 average weekly readers.

The research also shows that The Globe and Mail continues to increase its weekly combined print and online readership among a number of key demographic groups, including:

• Readers ages 25 to 54 up 4 per cent to 1.9 million
• Female readership 18 to 34 is up 7 per cent to 406,000
• University grads up 5 per cent to 1.96 million
• Managers and professionals up 5 per cent to 973,000
• Readers with a personal income over $100K+ up 4 per cent to 509,000
• Readers with a household income over $125K up 7 per cent to over 1 million

The 2011 NADbank Study includes national readership data from 2011 in 48 readership markets.
