GlobalTel Develops a New Way Inmate Families Can Save On Long Distance Jail Calls
BOCA RATON, Fla., June 19, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- GlobalTel announced today that it has implemented a new way that prison inmates and families of prison inmates can save money on long distance jail calls made from jail to any U.S. or international phone number. The new service named Offender Connect Local Jail Call Service is aimed at reducing the abusive long distance charges billed by City, State and County Jail facilities. A typical long distance jail call can cost as high as $5.00 per minute while customers using GlobalTel's new service can "save" as much as $4.50 per minute. The GlobalTel service costs less than $30.00 and has no limit on the quantity of talk time.
According to Steve Williams, GlobalTel's CEO, "Jail Calls have always been a large source of funding for the U.S. Prison System but families simply cannot afford the high costs and the lack of communication between inmates and their families creates irreparable damage to all."
The Federal Communications Commission is slowly been addressing steps to lower rates for interstate long-distance jail calls. The GlobalTel Jail Call System works to address the cost issues and works with GTL.net, GlobalTel*Link, Securus, Pay-Tel and other prison phone system providers.
Studies show that inmates maintaining contact with family have a reduced rate of recidivism and are more likely to become productive citizens upon release. An estimated 2.7 million children would benefit from better communications with an incarcerated parent.
