Global X Funds to Ring the Opening Bell at the New York Stock Exchange
Global X to Celebrate family of four Scientific Beta ETFs
NEW YORK, Feb. 9, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Global X Funds, the New York-based provider of exchange-traded funds (ETFs), will ring the opening bell this morning at the New York Stock Exchange to celebrate its suite of Scientific Beta ETFs. The funds cover four regions and include the Global X Scientific Beta US ETF (SCIU), Global X Scientific Beta Europe ETF (SCID), Global X Scientific Beta Japan ETF (SCIJ), and Global X Scientific Beta Asia ex-Japan ETF (SCIX).
Bruno del Ama, Global X Funds CEO, will officially represent the firm at the ringing of the bell. "We're thrilled to celebrate our Scientific Beta suite of ETFs today," said Bruno del Ama, CEO at Global X. "With hundreds of smart beta ETFs in the market, we are proud to offer what we believe are among the highest quality and most academically-minded strategies available."
Global X Funds offers 47 ETFs, including a 'smart core' suite which consists of the Scientific Beta ETFs. The funds track indexes developed by the EDHEC Risk-Institute, a leading academic institution for applied financial research based in France. Investors often consider these Scientific Beta strategies as replacements for more expensive actively managed funds, as they seek to outperform market cap-weighted indexes at a fraction of the fees typically charged for active management.
Representing the next generation of smart indexing, the Scientific Beta ETFs capture four historically well-rewarded factors: Value, Size, Momentum, and Low Volatility. While each factor has historically outperformed the market over the long term, they can experience periods of underperformance. The Scientific Beta strategy seeks to smooth returns and deliver more consistent outperformance by providing exposures to multiple factors at once.

Investing involves risk, including possible loss of principal. In addition to the normal risks associated with investing, international investments may involve risk of capital loss from unfavorable fluctuation in currency values, differences in generally accepted accounting principles or economic or political instability in other nations. The Funds are non-diversified. For SCIJ, the Japanese economy may be subject to considerable degrees of economic, political and social instability, which could have a negative impact on Japanese securities. In addition, Japan is subject to the risk of natural disasters, such as earthquakes, volcanoes, typhoons and tsunamis, which could negatively affect the Fund.
Diversification may not protect against market risk. There is no assurance the strategy goals discussed will be met.
Shares are bought and sold at market price (not NAV) and are not individually redeemed from the Fund. Brokerage commissions will reduce returns. Global X NAVs are calculated using prices as of 4:00 PM Eastern Time. The closing price is the Mid-Point between the Bid and Ask price as of the close of exchange.
