DUBLIN, March 7, 2018 /PRNewswire/ --
The "Smart Cities LPWA Set" report has been added to ResearchAndMarkets.com's offering
In the next five years, Low Power Wide Area (LPWA) networking technologies such as Sigfox, LoRa, LTE-M and NB-IoT will connect hundreds of millions of smart city sensing devices to low cost multi-kilometer cloud connected networks. LPWA networks continue to displace existing outdoor networking technologies for metering and streetlight monitoring, but they are also disrupting Internet of Things (IoT) solutions for parking, waste management, smart water networks, geotechnical monitoring, pollution monitoring and bike sharing.
Intense competition among network operators and new LPWA network offerings has created a more affordable smart city technology landscape. Unlicensed LPWA IoT network technologies like LoRa and Sigfox have given IoT operators Comcast, Senet, Thinxtra and UnaBiz a significant cost advantage. However, LTE-M and NB-IoT networks are rolling out worldwide by mobile LTE operators, many of which also provide LoRaWAN as an alternative for either public or private network use.
Transportation LPWA
This report covers the Internet of Things (IoT) opportunities provided by Low Power Wide Area (LPWA) networking for the multi-trillion-dollar transportation industry. LPWA technologies such as Sigfox, LoRa, LTE-M and NB-IoT are providing transportation markets with low cost multi-kilometer ubiquitous cloud connectivity. These LPWA technologies and their ecosystems are rapidly reshaping low power outdoor sensing and control networks.
LTE-M and LoRa provide unique advantages for transportation IoT by enabling ultra-low power consumption for mobile vehicle sensors. NB-IoT is most suited to fixed wireless sensing such as parking management, streetlight monitoring and electric vehicle charging infrastructure monitoring. Most LPWA technologies are targeting tracking and locating mobile assets with an accuracy of a hundred meters. For example, bicycles and rapidly expanding e-Bike offerings represents one of the largest potential LPWA markets with over 1 billion in use worldwide. Intensifying efforts to reduce dependence on gas-powered vehicles has resulted in today's billion-dollar bike sharing industry and accelerating adoption of electric vehicles.
Smart Lighting LPWA
With billions of semiconductor-based LED light sources installed annually, smart lighting is one of the largest and fastest growing Internet of Things (IoT) markets. Low Power Wide Area (LPWA) network technologies such as Sigfox, LoRa , NB-IoT, RPMA and Weightless promise to connect billions of IoT devices through public and private networks that connect thousands of devices over multiple miles.
In this report, the market opportunity and competitive landscape for LPWA solutions for smart lighting including municipal streetlights, roadway lighting, campuses, area lighting, parking lots/garages as well as buildings and residences is analyzed.
