SCOPE OF THE REPORT
This research report presents an in-depth analysis of the global agrochemical market by type and geographic regional markets. It covers the major categories of agrochemicals used for crop protection across the globe. The evolving trends and ongoing research and developments in the field of agrochemical developments have been studied in detail.
The study highlights the emergence of genetically modified crops, the importance of crop protection and the pros and cons of pesticide use. Special importance has been given to key market developments such as collaborative activities, important acquisitions, new product launches and strategic agreements between top players. An analysis of the key drivers and factors either affecting or influencing the growth of this market is also included in the report. The analysis also includes the current and projected market for agrochemicals across geographies, while considering different parameters (e.g., government regulations, climatic conditions and crop production).
The global agrochemical market is mainly segmented into types and regions. Types of agrochemicals are principally categorized into pesticides and fertilizers. Pesticides primarily include herbicides, insecticides and fungicides. Nitrogenous, phosphatic, potassic and biofertilizers are covered under the fertilizer category. In terms of geography, the market is categorized by North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific and the rest of the world.
Growing concerns related to the environment and the adverse effects of chemical-based agrochemicals on human health are driving future prospects for bio-based pesticides and fertilizers. The worldwide production of Aldicarb, an insecticide with high toxicity, will be end by 2015. In June 2008, the Ontario, Canada, government passed the Cosmetic Pesticide Ban Act to ban the use and sale of lawn and garden pesticides and in March 2009, a new regulation and pesticide classifications announced specify the details of the ban. Popular pesticides such as Killex herbicides, "weed and feed" fertilizer-pesticide mixtures and Weedout herbicides will be affected by the ban. During the same period, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approved a number of new biopesticides for commercial use such as iron HEDTA, oriental mustard seed and hydrogenated catmint oil.
Major manufacturers of agrochemicals are incorporating different strategies for future growth. Dow AgroSciences LLC and Taminco U.S. Inc. entered into a supply agreement for the manufacture of choline hydroxide, a raw material that is used in the herbicide Enlist Duo. In 2012, Syngenta launched its Talon rodenticide product range in the U.K. Dow AgroSciences, Syngenta and Bayer CropScience are among the major companies profiled in this report.
