Global Insurance Symposium To Feature International Industry Experts And First-Ever Demos From Global Insurance Accelerator
DES MOINES, Iowa, Feb. 19, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Details are emerging for the second annual Global Insurance Symposium including the first of several speaker announcements. Registration is now open for this event in downtown Des Moines, where executives from internationally respected insurance companies will join state and national elected officials, international regulators, state insurance commissioners and six companies participating in the first-ever Global Insurance Accelerator.
The second annual event will be held May 26-28, 2015 at the Downtown Marriott in Des Moines and will provide a forum for insurance professionals and regulatory authorities to share insights into challenges facing the insurance industry.
Speakers will address a variety of themes affecting the insurance industry including cybersecurity, big data and innovation. Sessions will include CEO roundtables, keynote addresses and breakout sessions. Speakers being announced today include:
- Thomas Sullivan is an associate director with the Federal Reserve, Board of Governors, where he leads the organization on supervisory and regulatory matters presented by insurance firms. Mr. Sullivan will present the view from the Federal Reserve on domestic and international standards, which are emerging and evolving. The Fed supervises over 1/3 of the U.S. insurance market (in assets) as consolidated regulator.
- Daud Vicary Abdullah, president and chief executive officer, The Global University of Islamic Finance (INCEIF), has more than 40 years in finance and consulting with a subject matter expertise in Islamic Finance.
- Insurance Commissioners: Ken Kobylowski (NJ), John Huff (MO), Ted Nickel (WI) and Kevin McCarty (FL)
New this year will be demonstrations of the first group of companies involved in the Global Insurance Accelerator (GIA), a mentor-driven accelerator designed to foster innovation in the insurance industry through start-ups targeting global insurance markets. Recently launched, the six GIA companies have received $40,000 in equity exchange for the opportunity of 100 days of mentoring and the opportunity to present their insurance industry product or service solution to the 350-plus participants at the Global Insurance Symposium.
In addition to support from an impressive slate of sponsors, a planning committee consisting of Iowa's leading insurance companies, Iowa Insurance Institute, the Federation of Iowa Insurers, the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA), the Greater Des Moines Partnership, and the Iowa Insurance Division will shape the content of the 2015 Global Insurance Symposium.
