Key Findings in the Global Industrial Enzymes Study
Foods and Beverages to Provide the Best Opportunities Through 2021
Food and beverage applications are expected to remain the largest market for industrial enzymes, driven by rising popularity of a Western-style diet in developing countries. Animal feed will post strong growth as demand for meat grows across the globe. However, the maturity of many markets in developed regions will restrain growth.
The Asia/Pacific Region to Overtake North America as the Largest Regional Market
North America was the largest regional market in the global industrial enzymes market in 2016, with its position supported in part by the outsized biofuels industry and the large and mature manufacturing sector, including food and beverage processing and detergent production. However, the Asia/Pacific region will overtake North America as the largest regional market in 2021.
Growth will be supported by significant gains in China, although is expected to slow from the double-digit gains seen over the past decade. Japan will remain a significant market, but a relatively stagnant manufacturing sector will restrain growth.
Increases in Personal Incomes in Developing Countries Will Drive Gains in the Global Market
Growing personal incomes in developing countries will allow for increased ownership of washing machines and automatic dishwashers, driving demand for value-added detergents using enzymes. Gains in personal spending will also allow for greater spending on meat and processed foods supporting demand for enzymes.
Study Coverage
This study presents historical demand data (2006, 2011, and 2016) and forecasts for 2021 by market, including food and beverages, cleaning products, biofuel production, animal feed, textiles and leather, pulp and paper, and other industrial markets.
The study also presents data by product (carbohydrase, protease, lipase, phytase, and other enzyme types) and region (North America, Asia/Pacific, Western Europe, Eastern Europe, Africa/Mideast, and Central and South America).
