ARLINGTON, Va., March 10, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Global Guardian, the international security and emergency evacuation firm has added Haiti to the list of countries where it provides personnel tracking, emergency response, security, medical support, and evacuation services.
"We've had a large demand for personnel tracking and emergency response services from both non-governmental aid organizations and religious groups who are either planning or have ongoing projects in the country," said Dale Buckner, Global Guardian CEO and former Army Green Beret Colonel. "We've been very thorough in developing a true on the ground response capability in Haiti and I'm happy to say we can now offer our services in the country," he added.
Haiti is a popular country for aid projects by U.S. based non-governmental aid organizations and religious groups because of its relative close proximity to the United States. The country was considered the poorest country in the western hemisphere even before the 2010 earthquake that destroyed or severely damaged over 200,000 buildings and killed as many as 220,000 people. Humanitarian and aid organizations rushed to the country to provide aid in the quake's aftermath. As the country stabilized and the security and transportation situation improved religious and charity groups began funding and staffing their own humanitarian and aid projects throughout the country.
Many of these organizations have little experience with the potential risks of operating in a country with extremely poor infrastructure. "The roads in Haiti are some of the worst I've ever seen," said Buckner. "Once you're out of the main cities, they're as bad as the roads in Afghanistan. The risk of a car accident and the inability to rapidly access emergency medical care is very real and can quickly create a crisis."
Global Guardian's 24-hour operations center tracks clients using specialized GPS tracking beacons and phone apps in some of the most high-risk countries in the world. In the event of an emergency, the firm communicates with the client and responds using its in-country emergency response and security teams or local emergency medical services
"Our service model is popular with charity and aid organizations because of the relatively low-cost safety net we're able to provide." said Buckner. "It's comforting for a parent who has a teenager working with a charity group in Haiti to know that we're tracking their child's location and that there is a trusted team on the ground able to respond to a medical emergency, natural disaster or security incident."
