On May 12, 2014, BusinessWeek reported that Facebook, Inc. (Facebook) is in the process of opening a sales office in China to collaborate with local advertisers. The news article on BusinessWeek stated that the Company is in discussions to lease space in Beijing's Fortune Financial Center, located in the city's central business district and is expected to open an office within a year to serve a growing set of customers in China. Microsoft Corporation Analyst Notes
On May 13, 2014, Microsoft Corporation (Microsoft) announced the new TV white space partnerships and projects on four continents, including its newest partnership with SpectraLink Wireless and Facebook to provide low-cost wireless connectivity to students and faculty at universities in Koforidua, Ghana. Speaking at the Dynamic Spectrum Alliance Global Summit in Accra, the capital city of Ghana, Microsoft informed that its commercial partnership with SpectraLink Wireless and research partnership with Facebook will deploy wireless networks covering entire campuses at All Nations University College and Koforidua Polytechnic. Paul Garnett, Director in Microsoft's Technology Policy Group, commented, "TV white spaces technology, when combined with other low-cost wireless technologies, such as Wi-Fi, offers a substantial opportunity for businesses, consumers and governments around the world to improve the economics of broadband network deployment and service delivery." AT&T, Inc. Analyst Notes
On May 13, 2014, Reuters reported that AT&T, Inc. (AT&T), the second-largest wireless operator in the U.S., is in talks to buy satellite TV provider DirecTV, citing Company insiders. As per the article, AT&T expects the deal to be completed in the next few weeks, and could be worth close to $50 billion. The news article stated that AT&T is negotiating an offer in the low- to mid-$90s per share for DirecTV.
